Getting healthy again

So today has been a healthy day so far.  After last nights mini sugar fiesco I woke up this morning with the intention that today would be healthier.  I went to the gym from 9:15 to 10:45. Wow am I sore.  I took an intense cardio and strengthening class that really worked my glut muscles.  Some time next week  I intend to post some of the excersizes I learned from today on this blog.

Though its more expensive than popping in a workout DVD, I think going to the gym is a great way to find motivation.  I don't know about you guys but it also really motivates me to see people who are really in shape working out.   Belonging to a gym is kind of like belonging to a community of people who are all on their own journey towards better health.  The simple act of going to the gym also impacts the decisions I make about my health in a positive way.  For instance when I work out at the gym I am much less likely to have a sugar binge or be a coach potato for the remainder of the day.

After I got back from the gym today I made myself a delicous salad. I mixed together some romaine lettuce, walnuts, turkey, goat cheese, halved grapes, and avacados with creamy delicous balsamic dressing.   If you want to make your own balsamic dressing all you need to do is mix three tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil with one tablespoon of Balsamic vinegar.  Totally delicous!!!  Instead of having dessert I had green tea with honey.  Another tasty and healthy alternative to a sugary dessert.

A couple hours later I went for a snack.  I realised I was craving something crunchy.  Instead of eating chips I decided to peel and cut some carrots.  I ended up being totally satisfied by my healthy alternative.   I made sure to sit down and mindfully enjoy my snack.  I've realized that when I am standing up and snacking its hard for me to be present.

Anybody else have suggestions on healthy alternatives for snack food?
